Bridging people & communities
We operate floating bridges that connect communities and ensure reliable mobility across both remote and urban areas.
Our core focus is delivering safe, efficient transport across the Nordics while investing in new technologies to cut emissions and help fight climate change.
OUR ROUTES
Connecting the Nordic coastlines
With over 90 vessels on 50+ routes, we serve more than 25 million passengers each year, connecting them to the people and places that matter most. Our growing network of “floating bridges” is constantly evolving to meet future needs.
STRATEGY
Strategic pillars
Since our launch in 2023, Nordic Ferry Infrastructure (NFI) has focused on strengthening its position as the leading ferry infrastructure operator in the Nordics. We leverage our regional scale to drive synergies, share best practices across companies, and lead the way in safe, sustainable operations.
Nordic platform and synergies
With a large and diversified route portfolio across Norway, Denmark and Sweden, NFI has built a pan-Nordic platform that enables scale and synergies across the region.
Since inception, we have realised significant benefits through standardisation, joint procurement, optimised resource utilisation and sharing of best practices. Synergies are captured across key areas such as procurement, financing, insurance, tender processes, and revenue management.
Safe and efficient operations
We enable safe and efficient mobility in the Nordics, connecting people and businesses with “floating bridges”. Safety always comes first, with zero critical incidents as our ambition. On our routes, there is a continuous focus on early detection of both health issues and potential safety concerns, both for employees and passengers.
Green transition
We recognize today’s environmental challenges and the maritime industry’s key role in accelerating the clean energy transition. Decarbonising our fleet is at the core of our strategy, and we invest significantly in zero-emission technologies.
We aim to reach net zero emissions by 2040, supported by science-based targets and continuous improvements in sustainable operations.
Our management
Our history
Our ferry operations in the Nordics span over a century, with roots in Torghatten (1878) and Molslinjen (1963). The formation of NFI in 2022/23 brought these operators together, establishing the Group as the region’s leading ferry infrastructure provider.
2021
Acquisition of Molslinjen and Torghatten
EQT Infrastructure acquired Molslinjen, Denmark’s largest passenger ferry operator, originally founded by DFDS in 1963, in December 2020. This was followed by the acquisition of Torghatten, Norway’s leading private transportation company with a heritage dating back to 1878, through a public offer.
These strategic investments marked a significant step in EQT’s vision to build a pan-Nordic transport infrastructure network, strengthening connectivity and sustainable mobility across the region.
2022
Formation of NFI and acquisition of FORSEA
Nordic Ferry Infrastructure was established in 2022 through the combination of Molslinjen and Torghatten
The acquisition of ForSea (now Øresundslinjen, part of Molslinjen) in November 2022, marked the Group’s entry into Sweden and strengthened its regional position.
2023
Building the platform
The governance model was transitioned to the NFI Group level, with new pan-Nordic management led by former Molslinjen CEO Carsten Jensen as Group CEO
The combination enabled operational synergies and economies of scale, supported by a diversified concession contract and perpetual route portfolio spanning multiple Nordic countries.
2024 and onwards
NFI today
NFI has expanded its position in Sweden and secured long-term harbour agreements for Kattegat and Øresundslinjen.
Four Centres of Excellence have been established to drive synergies, efficiency and collaboration across the Group, alongside the restructuring of Torghatten with more centralised functions.
OUR COMPANIES
A vital part of the critical national infrastructure
NFI’s business units Torghatten and Molslinjen operate an indispensable part of the pan-Nordic transport infrastructure network, where our ferries seamlessly integrate with the road network as a floating bridge and function as critical links in the existing road network.
Torghatten
Torghatten is one of the largest floating bridge operators in Norway, providing essential ferry and express boat services on 47 concession routes to ~12 million passengers in 2025. Its route network is often serving as the only way of transportation along the +100 000 km Norwegian coastline.
