Bridging people & communities
We operate floating bridges that connect communities and ensure smooth mobility across both remote and urban areas.
Our core focus is delivering safe, efficient transport across the Nordics while investing in new technologies to cut emissions and help fight climate change.

OUR ROUTES
Connecting the Nordic coastlines
With over 90 vessels on 57 routes, we serve more than 25 million passengers each year, connecting them to the people and places that matter most. Our growing network of “floating bridges” is constantly evolving to meet future needs.
STRATEGY
Strategic pillars
Since our launch in 2023, Nordic Ferry Infrastructure (NFI) has focused on strengthening its position as the leading ferry infrastructure operator in the Nordics. We leverage our regional scale to drive synergies, share best practices across companies, and lead the way in safe, sustainable operations.
Nordic platform and synergies
With a large and diversified route portfolio across several geographies, NFI is in a unique position to extract synergies from our Nordic platform. Since inception, NFI has benefited from our combined strength in areas such as insurance, financing, procurement, tender processes, and revenue management.
Safe and efficient operations
We enable safe and efficient mobility in the Nordics, connecting people and businesses with “floating bridges”. Safety always comes first, with zero critical incidents as our ambition. On our routes, there is a continuous focus on early detection of both health issues and potential safety concerns, both for employees and passengers.
Green transition
We recognize today’s environmental challenges and that the maritime industry is key to accelerating the clean energy transition. As we grow our business and route network, decarbonizing the vessels is a clear priority and at the very center of our strategy. We aim to reduce our GHG emissions with 44% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2040.
Our management
Our history
Our ferry operations in the Nordics span over a century, with Torghatten founded in 1878 and Molslinjen in 1963. The formation of NFI in 2022/23 brought these legacy operators together, establishing the Group as the region’s leading ferry infrastructure provider.
2021
Acquisition of Molslinjen and Torghatten
EQT Infrastructure announced the acquisition of Molslinjen, Denmark’s largest passenger ferry operator, originally founded by DFDS in 1963, in December 2020. This was followed by the successful acquisition of Torghatten, Norway’s leading private transportation company with a heritage dating back to 1878, through a public offer.
These strategic investments mark a significant step in EQT’s vision to build a pan-Nordic transport infrastructure network, strengthening connectivity and sustainable mobility across the region.
2022
Formation of NFI and acquisition of FORSEA
Nordic Ferry Infrastructure was established in 2022 through the legal combination of Molslinjen and Torghatten
The acquisition of ForSea (now Øresundslinjen), originally established in 1996, was announced in November 2022, marking the first step into the Swedish market and further strengthening NFI’s position in Denmark.
2023
NFI group function established
Governance model transitioned to NFI Group level with new management taking the helm at pan-Nordic level, led by former Molslinjen CEO Carsten Jensen as Group CEO
The combination drives operational synergies and extracts benefits from economics of scale, with a diversified concession contract and perpetual route portfolio spanning multiple Nordic countries.
2024
NFI today
Governance model transitioned to NFI Organically entered Sweden, winning the tender for Strømstad-Koster with duration of 15 years
Extended key harbour agreements for Kattegat and Øresundslinjen until 2035 and 2040 respectively
Established pan-Nordic Centers of Excellence to further drive collaboration and extract scale benefits
Restructuring of the Torghatten organization with more centralized functions
OUR COMPANIES
A vital part of the critical national infrastructure
NFI’s business units Torghatten and Molslinjen operate an indispensable part of the pan-Nordic transport infrastructure network, where our ferries seamlessly integrate with the road network as a floating bridge and function as critical links in the existing road network.
Molslinjen
Molslinjen is the only Danish ferry operator of scale, serving 14 million passengers annually across 10 routes. It forms a critical part of Denmark’s transportation infrastructure through a mix of perpetual routes and concession contracts.
Torghatten
Torghatten is one of the largest floating bridge operators in Norway, providing essential ferry and express boat services on 47 concession routes to 11 million passengers in 2024. Its route network is often serving as the only way of transportation along the 103 000 km Norwegian coastline.
