SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Our people and commitment to safety
We provide safe, efficient mobility across the Nordics through our “floating bridges, connecting people and businesses. Safety is our top priority, with zero critical incidents as our goal. By focusing on early detection of health and safety risks - for both employees and passengers – we demonstrate that profitability and marine safety can go hand in hand.
Safe operations
We are committed to the highest standards of maritime safety. Our operations align with international labor standards and industry-specific regulations, including the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and the Maritime Labor Convention for seafarers' rights (MLC), which safeguards the rights and welfare of seafarers. We also comply with national labor laws in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.
With the majority of our workforce at sea, we fully understand the unique risks associated with maritime work — especially during peak seasons and demanding shifts. Our long-term goal is simple but vital: zero workplace accidents. To get there, we’re building a strong safety-first culture grounded in thorough risk management, hands-on training, continuous learning, and the use of innovative technologies like autonomous ferry systems that help keep our people safe while improving operations.
We’re deeply committed to creating a healthy, supportive, and inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued. To help our people balance work and life, we offer flexible arrangements and digital tools that support well-being and personal needs.
We listen closely through regular employee surveys and take action based on what we learn. Health check-ups, conflict resolution support, and training on harassment prevention are just some of the ways we work to maintain a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all.

Promoting diversity and talent in maritime careers
At NFI, we’re committed to equal opportunity, fairness, and mutual respect. We uphold collective agreements to ensure transparency in wages and benefits, and we maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward discrimination and harassment.
While women make up nearly a third of our workforce, the maritime industry is still largely male-dominated. To change that, we’re taking active steps to promote diversity and inclusion across all roles. We've signed the Charter for More Women in Shipping and were proud to be nominated for the Danish Shipping Diversity Award in 2023 – a recognition of our efforts to create a more equitable workplace.
Our initiatives include leadership training, young seafarer panels, apprenticeships, internships, and hands-on maritime programs aimed at attracting and retaining diverse talent. We also connect with youth fairs and schools to inspire the next generation – encouraging careers in everything from engineering and deck operations to ship cooking and electrical work.

Freedom of movement
To us, mobility is about more than just getting from A to B – it’s about helping people connect, explore, and take part in everyday life, no matter their circumstances or abilities. Ferries are lifelines for many communities, and we believe that access to reliable, affordable, and inclusive transport is essential for social and economic participation.
Across our Nordic “floating bridge” network, we operate 57 routes and carry over 25 million passengers each year. Whether serving remote islands or busy cities, our ferries are built to be accessible to everyone. Through strong, long-term partnerships with the public sector, we help keep communities connected and vital infrastructure in place.
